On the 9th of November, the ATO published statistics on their activities around employer superannuation guarantee compliance.
Whilst employers are paying more than 94% of the super contributions they are required to without intervention from the ATO, there is still a level of non-compliance that the ATO takes very seriously.
Amongst other activities, the ATO have reviewed over 14,000 employers and have issued over 3,660 Director Penalty Notices to 2,650 companies as part of their firmer action response.
With the enhanced visibility provided by the Super Stream and Single Touch Payroll (STP) systems, the ATO are better placed than they have ever been to police non-compliance with employer superannuation obligations.
We encourage employers to take their superannuation obligations seriously and to ensure that they have systems and processes in place to ensure compliance.
Employers should also to seek help where they are facing financial difficulties that may affect their ability to pay contributions on time.
